Dr. von Rueden is an Elliott Assistant Professor in Fine Arts at Hampden-Sydney College. Since 2014, she has teaches classes across the Music Area, including Men's Chorus, Choral Conducting, Music Fundamentals, History of Western Music, American Music History, Class Piano, and Music and Social Change. In 2013-2014, she served as Adjunct Voice Faculty at the University of Richmond, and taught voice lessons at St. Catherine's School and with the Virginia Girls Choir. Previously, Dr. von Rueden taught musicianship and aural skills at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and directed with Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus.
At Hampden-Sydney College, Dr. von Rueden serves as the Director of the Hampden-Sydney Music Series and American Acoustic Music Series. These concert series bring classical and American acoustic music to the campus each year. Recently performers include Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Honey Dewdrops, Ronald Crutcher and Joanne Kong, and The Piedmont Singers.
Dr. von Rueden is an Adjudicator for the Virginia Music Educator's Association High School Honor Choir, and served as a reviewer for the National Collegiate Choral Organization's Literature Session Review Committee in 2017.
